Aflac is spreading around the exposure of six high-profile NASCAR races in 2010 to a company known for selling premium fertilizer.
The Columbus-based supplemental insurance company said Wednesday it will share its primary sponsorship with Scotts Miracle-Gro for a half-dozen Sprint Cup events next season, starting with February’s Daytona Shootout.
The Scotts Miracle-Gro paint scheme will also be emblazoned on Carl Edwards’ No. 99 Ford Fusion at Atlanta Motor Speedway and at Bristol Motor Speedway in March, followed by an April race at Texas Motor Speedway and two May races at Richmond International Raceway and Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Aflac, perhaps best known for its whimsical duck advertising campaign, is completing the second year of its three-year, $78 million contract with Roush Fenway Racing to sponsor Edwards. No financial terms of its agreement with Scotts Miracle-Gro were released.
“Aflac and Scotts are two great companies that have supported me during my career,” Edwards said in a statement. “I earned my first Cup victory in a Scotts car (in 2005) and am looking forward to driving for them again in the Sprint Cup series in 2010.”
Scotts now is co-primary sponsor for Edwards in the Nationwide Series.
