The Eufaula, Ala., father of Staff Sgt. Chad Davis said his son is recovering after he was hit in the shoulder during a shooting rampage at the Fort Hood Army post.
“He was very positive,” retired Army Col. Mike Davis said Friday of his son after talking with him on the phone.
Chad Davis, 32, was among the 30 people wounded Thursday in a shooting rampage that also left 13 people dead.

His father said his son has been released from the hospital.
Mike Davis said he didn’t know why his son was at the Soldier Readiness Center where returning soldiers and those preparing to be deployed are processed.
His son has been in the Army for 14 years. Over the years he has been assigned as an armored tanker but his father didn’t know his current assignment.
Mike Davis said his son’s wife, Megan, was headed to Fort Hood to visit him. After a few days, his father said he’s also going for a visit. The couple has no children.
During his military career, Chad has served in Korea twice and in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Mike Davis said he was very surprised to hear about the shooting on the military post. “It was very shocking out of such a large place,” he said.
