Columbus police say they’ve cleared 25 burglaries, and one car theft, that occurred over the past two months with the arrests of five juveniles.

The suspects, taken into custody over the past week, were responsible for burglaries across Bridlewood, Heritage Place, the Warm Springs/Milgen roads area and on the east side of Columbus, said Lt. Gil Slouchick. Their method stayed the same — knock on someone’s front door, and if no one answered, kick in the back entrance, Slouchick said.

They’d take flat-screen TVs, jewelry and guns, the lieutenant said.

“They also stole one car,” he said. “We recovered the car.”

If someone answered the door, the juveniles would ask whether they needed their lawn cut. Slouchick advised people to examine those asking to do yard work and to observe whether or not they’re dressed to do work and if they have a lawn mower.

Police are still searching for an adult they believe is linked to the break-ins — Marquis Brooks, 18, who has an outstanding warrant for burglary, Slouchick said.

Anyone with information about Brooks should contact police at 706-653-3400.
