Auburn police have arrested a man accused of shooting a woman in the face early Sunday morning.

Carl D. Martin, 18, was arrested Sunday and charged with first degree assault, according to an Auburn Police Department news release.

The charge against Martin stemmed from an incident that occurred shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday morning. Police responded to a shooting call at a residence on North College Street and found the 20-year-old woman inside a bedroom in the house and suffering from a single life-threatening gunshot wound to her face.

She was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center, then later airlifted to a hospital in Birmingham. A second woman in the residence was not injured.

Two male suspects who fled the scene on foot were later apprehended minutes later. One man was questioned and released, while the other, Martin, was arrested and transported to the Lee County Detention Center for await bond.

A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting has also been recovered.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Auburn police detectives at 334-501-3140 or anonymously on the tip line at 334-501-7337.
