Foolish for ice cream
Smart enough to make it simple, it's Monday Mail:
Get creamed.
Here's the scoop: Noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, you can get free ice cream at Goodwill Industries' Ben & Jerry's Partner Shop, 6770 Veterans Parkway. You are limited to one scoop per serving in a cup or a cone, but may get in line for more.
So, do a taste-test; try new flavors; eat ice cream 'til you're another victim of America's obesity epidemic.
Get smart.
Some people think they're so smart they should join Mensa, the high-I.Q. club.
Maybe now they can. Mensa in Georgia will administer tests Saturday in the Synovus-CB&T room of the Columbus Public Library, 3000 Macon Road.
The testing fee is $40. Registration will be 9:15-9:50 a.m. and requires a photo ID. The testing starts at 10 and takes about 90 minutes. The test proctors will be Keith Hedger and Gene Fry, who would appreciate prospective Mensans' preregistering with them. Hedger's at keithhedger@knology.net or 706-289-9684; Fry's at cbbbg@mindspring.com or 706-577-4888.
You can get more information online at us.mensa.org or georgia.us.mensa.org.
Get foolish.
Today we have responses to an April Fools' column that said the school board had ditched plans to build an administration building by the library, and instead was moving portable classrooms there to serve as administrators' offices arranged by hierarchy on graded terraces. The development would be called "Macon Grades."
The names in that column were misspelled so people wouldn't take it seriously, but regular readers assumed the mistakes were typical:
Tim,
You got me good. I'm not naive or gullible, and admittedly not at my sharpest at 5:45 a.m., but I swallowed it, in large part because it was entirely plausible. When it comes to school board actions, I'm frequently dismayed but seldom surprised. I even attributed "Gosh" to a typo. Good one!
Michael
Tim,
You really did a good job foolin' me this morning and I loved it. I was reading and thinking "Oh, man, this is great idea," and solves so many problems connected with the school board. Very entertaining and creative!
I guess I will have to forget my long standing grudge against you for using those "fat lady" jokes when you ran out of original ideas in past columns.
Sincerely,
Rose Ogle
Tim,
Loved the creative ideas expressed in Tuesday's column. Would you consider being a candidate for the school board?
... J.A. Bray
Dear J.A.:
No, but I would run for council, because then the newspaper wouldn't let me cover the elections. And if I won, I wouldn't have to go to the council meetings anymore, either.
