A better way There's a better way to address our problems than a knee-jerk doubling of our sales tax. (Consider the looming 2 percent school and transportation taxes.) We shouldn't throw money at symptoms without seeking solutions through comprehensive studies of the causes, the needs, the cost, and a plan to pay for it.
L-E should broaden info base I truly applaud the recently announced commitment of the L-E management to meeting the needs of subscribers for more local news. An example of this effort is seen in the newspaper providing detailed and useful information for Columbus voters. I read it all with great interest and appreciation for the usefulness of the content provided in the coverage.

Although he argued in his July 7 letter that the Bible does not have anything to say about abortion, I suspect he could have as easily provided a slam-bang list of Bible passages that showed, or at least implied, that abortion is an abomination.

I want to respond to a letter printed in the June 24 paper. The letter describes the benefits of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom as "infinitesimal." I have a fair amount of education, but sometimes I just cannot understand his writings.
Back in the mid 80s and early 90s, I was one of dozens of Vietnam-era veterans whom Duncan Sinclair of the Pastoral Institute and Bernard Moss of the Bradley Center helped to lessen the effects of combat related PTSD. I recently read an article in the Ledger that told of three area women being robbed. Columbus seems to have had a recent surge in similar crimes. Many area residents have avoiding these situations as a top priority.
