Man charged with DUI after getting robbed
A man went from getting robbed early Saturday to getting into a car wreck and then to getting arrested, Columbus police said.
Brian Crotty, 41, was walking to his motel room along Victory Drive at 12:12 a.m. when five men approached him, Lt. Charles Kennedy said.
"One of them said, 'Give me the money,' " the lieutenant added.
Crotty's right hand was pulled out of his pants pocket, and one of the men grabbed the money he was holding.
He was punched in the face before the men ran off, Kennedy said.
Crotty got inside his car and drove away, getting into a wreck at Victory Drive and Melrich Avenue.
"He was very intoxicated and was arrested for DUI," Kennedy said.
Crotty told police about the robbery when they responded to the wreck, though he told officers he didn't want to make a report or prosecute.
