Columbus police are searching for a man they say shot a neighbor Sunday morning.

Michael Dale Smith, 30, is accused of shooting a 42-year-old man who lives near his home at Lake Forest Mobile Park, 800 Morris Road, said Sgt. Matt Blackstock.

The 10:20 a.m. shooting stemmed from an argument. Police don’t yet know what the pair were arguing about, Blackstock said.

“He shot the victim several times with a handgun during an argument,” the sergeant said. “We do not have Smith under arrest at this time. He’s on the run.”

The 42-year-old, who was hit in the torso, is undergoing surgery at The Medical Center, Blackstock said. He’s in stable condition.

Smith is a white male, 5-foot-10 and 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. His car is a silver Ford Thunderbird, Blackstock said.
