Michael Dale Smith, accused of shooting a man in the torso Sunday morning, was arrested early Monday, jail records state.

Smith, 30, was booked into the Muscogee County Jail at 3:02 a.m. on a count of aggravated assault. Police said he shot a 42-year-old man who lives near his home at Lake Forest Mobile Park, 800 Morris Road.

The 10:20 a.m. shooting stemmed from an argument, Sgt. Matt Blackstock said. The man was struck several times and was taken to The Medical Center for surgery. Blackstock said the man was going to live.

Smith’s Columbus Recorder’s Court hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. today.
