Lee County will be cap off "Paint the Town Purple" Week tonight with its annual Relay for Life event from 6 p.m. CDT today until 6 a.m. Saturday morning at the Southern Union Community College track in Opelika.

Paint the Town Purple Week began on Monday, with Lee County citizens wearing purple shirts in honor of the American Cancer Society's fight against the deadly disease.

Relay for Life is an overnight event where teams of local businesses, schools, churches, community groups and families raise funds — prior to and at the event with on-site fundraisers — to fight cancer.
