The Altrusa International Annual Used Books Sale opened their doors 30 minutes early Friday evening at the former Daniel Middle School after volunteers counted about 200 people in line for the scheduled 6 p.m. opening, said Altrusa volunteer Marnie Salter.

The book lovers began arriving mid-afternoon to get an early look at the nearly 100,000 used paperbacks and hard cover books that were priced from 10 cents to about six dollars. Altrusa International is a service organization, and all proceeds will go to local charities and organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House, Keep Columbus Beautiful, the Columbus Library, GED programs, the Columbus Literacy Alliance, Newspapers in Education, Partners in Education at the Rose Hill-Daniel Center and Muscogee County Evening High School.

The book sale continues until 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Sunday 1-6 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Daniel Middle School 1042 45th St. (Across from Columbus Technical College)
