Officer recovering after being struck by car

A Columbus police officer struck by a man charged with DUI is recovering.

Officer Alan Sinquefield was driving west early Saturday on Talbotton Road at Hamilton Road when Daniel Ray Cooper, 36, of 3705 15th Ave. collided with his police car, Maj. Julius Graham said.

"The officer had the green light," Graham added. "There was evidence at the scene that indicated alcohol was involved. That's why (Cooper) was charged with DUI — one of the reasons he was charged with DUI."

Cooper was charged with disregarding a traffic control device, serious injury by vehicle and driving under the influence. He was out on bond by Monday.

Sinquefield's medical condition was serious, though it's since improved, Graham said.
