The Muscogee County Genealogical Society and Columbus State University's Carson McCullers Center team up to present "A Suitcase in Georgia" at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Simon Schwob Memorial Library on main campus.
Jennifer O'Kelley found a suitcase full of 19th-century letters in her basement in Macon. The suitcase holds stories of heroes, heroines, rascals and scalawags — people who were living extraordinary lives during some of the most divisive times in our nation's history, said Cathy Fussell, CSU's director of the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians.
O'Kelley will talk about the importance of the preservation of Georgia's history through the letters she found in the old black suitcase. These letters tell the stories of real people and real events — a Georgia history story.
