The Judge Advocate General’s office is charged with the following duties:

ŸAdvising soldiers, their families and military retirees on personal, non-business, civil legal matters. This includes the preparation of some legal documents such as wills and powers of attorney, assistance in drafting letters for signature and advising on tax issues.

ŸThe JAG is responsible for the defense and prosecution of military law.

ŸCol. Tracy Barnes is the staff judge advocate at Fort Benning. His staff consists of about 22 civilian and military attorneys as well as civilian and military personnel that handle various legal services.
