Skeletal remains were found Thursday night in the woods off J.R. Allen Parkway near the eastbound ramp leading to Veterans Parkway.

Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Pamela Smith confirmed the finding and said she was called there about 7:45 p.m.

Columbus Police Sgt. Matt Blackstock said investigators believe the remains found were that of a homeless man. A make-shift shelter was found near the body.

Blackstock added that there was no evidence of foul play.

The remains have been sent to Atlanta for testing
