407-foot solar system model lines school hallway

April 24, 2009

Ben Baker, sixth-grade teacher at Phenix City Intermediate School, designed, built and installed a 407-foot solar system model.

The planets are represented by signs and are spaced according to actual distance from the sun. The model is based on distance, not size.

Baker had help from several sources, including Home Depot, Harvey Lumber Company, colleagues, family and students.
