A Goodwater, Ala. Man accused of murder was taken into custody Saturday night in Columbus, police said.

Michael Darren Stowe, 27, is accused of stabbing two people, one of them fatally, on Friday in the Coosa County town of some 1,500, said Columbus Police Lt. Steve Cox. The lieutenant’s department was contacted around 6 p.m. Saturday by Goodwater and told Stowe may be in the Victory Drive area.

Detectives discovered that Stowe had registered in a Motel 6 under his own name, Cox said. He wasn’t in the room when officers checked, though he was found around 7 p.m. in front of Circle K, 3274 Victory Drive.

“He’s been arrested and charged with fugitive from justice,” Cox said. “We arrested him for fugitive from justice, but he’s wanted for murder.”

Cox said that Stowe is expected to appear before a Muscogee County Superior Court judge.
