Foster’s grand slam advances CVCC
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Bo Foster hit a grand slam in the seventh inning Tuesday to lift Chattahoochee Valley to a 5-3 victory over Wallace State-Hanceville in the Alabama Community College Conference tournament.
CVCC, which lost its tournament opener Saturday, faced elimination against the host team in a game that was scheduled to be played Sunday but was pushed back by two days of rain.
Foster, who started on the mound, gave up three runs in 1 2-3 innings. The Pirates were limited to just one hit before the seventh inning, when Donte Williams led off with a home run. Nick Stephens followed with a single, Drew Freeman was walked, and Rick Noelte was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Foster’s 13th homer of the season.
Derek Varnadore (6-4) replaced Foster and earned the win by shutting out Hanceville for 6 1-3 innings. He allowed three hits while striking out eight. Johnny Gunter pitched a perfect ninth for his second save of the season.
CVCC will play either Shelton State or Jeff Davis at 1 p.m. today.
