The Columbus/West Georgia chapter of Junior Achievement has hired local businessman and community activist Charles Clark as its new executive director.
The decision was announced Monday.
"As long as God keeps me alive, I will work or volunteer until I can't do it any more," said Clark, 69.
He was considering possible jobs in the Obama Administration when the call from Junior Achievement came. Most recently, he was the campaign manager for U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop's successful effort in the Second Congressional District.
"There is nothing more rewarding that I can do in my last years on earth than work with young people to help make a positive impact on their future," Clark said.
Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy by using a hands-on approach.
Clark replaces Debbie Davis, who was with the organization less than a year.
Clark is a retired administrator with the Department of Veteran Affairs and worked as vice president for the Columbus Regional Medical Foundation. He is married to Bunky McClung Clark.
