Four Troup County high school graduates have earned scholarships from the Plum Creek Community Scholarship Program.
Morgan Atterberry, Turner Davis, Lamenda Kallam and Jennifer Sargent each received $1,000 from Plum Creek. The company owns approximately 7 million acres of timberlands, produces lumber, plywood and medium density fiberboard and operates a real estate development business known as the Township 110 Land Company.
The company awarded a total of $141,000 in scholarship money to students across the country. Winners were chosen based on excellence in the areas of academics, school and community activities, and overall achievement.
Atterberry, Davis and Sargent graduated from Troup County Comprehensive High School. Kallam graduated from LaGrange Academy.
During high school, Atterberry participated in Beta Club, Interact Club, Sierra Club, Anchor Club, and Key Club.
She is a National Honor Society member and a Georgia Certificate of Merit Scholar, as well as the recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award for her high school.
She was captain of her cross-country team and was awarded the cross-country team Coach’s Award. She plans to attend Kennesaw State University and major in biology.
Davis was a member of the Interact Club and Key Club, as well as captain of the varsity soccer team and varsity volleyball team. She also played Lady Renegades club soccer and acted as an Upwards Youth soccer coach. Davis will attend Berry College and plans to major in pharmacy.
Sargent served as Interact Club President, Anchor Club President, Thespian Society President, and National Honor Society Secretary, as well as a member of Student Council and Beta Club.
She is an AP Scholar and has attended numerous leadership conferences including the Summer Leadership Institute of Wofford College and Youth Leadership Program of LaGrange. She is also a counselor at Thompson-Pound Art Program and Camp Viola and an acolyte at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Sargent plans to attend the University of Georgia.
Kallam was a member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society, as well as Treasurer of the Anchor Club. She acted as captain of the varsity soccer team and varsity softball team. Kallam also volunteers as an assistant youth coach with the Parks and Recreation Department and played on the U-10 club soccer team.
She plans to attend Armstrong Atlantic State University and majors in biology.
