Authorities have released the name of the young man who drowned Saturday while trying to rescue a 9-year-old swimming in Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens.

The body of 21-year-old Rico Cruz, of East Point, Ga., was recovered from the lake at 2:29 p.m., according to Harris County Coroner James Carver. An autopsy will be performed in Atlanta, though Carver said the cause of death will be drowning.

The deceased likely went into the water about 12:30 p.m. to rescue a boy struggling to stay afloat. A 14-year-old also went into the water having noticed the same struggling boy. The teen grabbed the child and brought him safely to shore. Cruz disappeared under the water and did not resurface.

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the death.
