Columbus councilors have voted to continue the first reading of the ordinance establishing a director of crime prevention for the city and setting a paygrade of G-24.

The G-24 salary has a range of $63,000-$93,000.

The vote was unanimous. Evelyn Turner Pugh made the motion. The council wants Mayor Jim Wetherington to put together a presentation explaining exactly what the job entails.

The reading has been rescheduled for two weeks from today, which is July 28.
