The Columbus Cottonmouths and their fans will have a lot to celebrate as the Snakes begin their sixth season in the Southern Professional Hockey League. Training camp begins on October 10 and opening night is Friday, October 23.
The Snakes will take the ice on three special nights this season. They have home games on Halloween, Thanksgiving and New Years Day.
For only the second time in six seasons, the Cottonmouths have Christmas night off. The team will give thanks at the Snake Pit for the fifth time in six years. Only a bus breakdown on Thanksgiving of 2004 prevents a six-year tenure on turkey day.
This will be the first time the Cottonmouths have provided trick-or-treat entertainment for their fans and also the inaugural home game on January 1.
The schedule is heavily laden with weekend games. The Cottonmouths play 19 of the 28-game home schedule on Friday or Saturday nights. There are two Sunday contests, three on Tuesday and four on Thursday.
Training camp begins in mid-October. The Snakes have signed veterans Orrin Hergott, Tim Green and captain Craig Stahl with the signings picking up in the coming weeks.
The Fayetteville FireAntz and Cottonmouths drop the puck on the new season with games Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24. Game time is 7:30.
