Columbus Councilor Jerry "Pops" Barnes will lead a health insurance reform roundtable discussion today at 11 a.m. today at 3640 Buena Vista Road.
The group Organizing for America (OFA), will host the discussion about President Barack Obamas call for health insurance reform.
Obama recently announced eight "Health Insurance Guarantees." According to an OFA press release, under those guarantees, everyone will benefit, even people who currently have insurance.
"Any legislation the president signs will include these iron-clad guarantees, which will reverse years of unfair insurance company practices: (1) no discrimination for pre-existing conditions; (2) no exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles, or co-pays; (3) no cost-sharing for preventive care; ( 4) no dropping of coverage for the seriously ill; (5) no gender discrimination; (6) no annual or lifetime caps on coverage; (7) extended coverage for young adults; and (8) guaranteed insurance renewal," the release said.
OFA, a grassroots project of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) dedicated to supporting the presidents agenda, is committed to building and strengthening the grassroots network created during the campaign. The group's commitment to reform Americas health insurance system will increase during Congress' August recess with events alerting members of Congress to the broad base of support health insurance reform has across this country, the release said.
