GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Tim Tebow’s back is just fine. So is his shoulder — finally.

Tebow returned to practice Monday, getting back to “head-butting people,” after missing some repetitions last week because of a sore lower back.

How did Tebow injure himself?

“Probably overworking, like I do everything,” Tebow said.

He added that he plans to slow down some as the defending national champion and top-ranked Florida prepares for its Sept. 5 season opener against Charleston Southern.

“It’s about that time when you just need to ease it up, get ready for the season and stop training so hard,” Tebow said. “Tone it back a little bit.”

Tebow also revealed that he played most of last year with a bum shoulder. Tebow said he injured his non-throwing shoulder in the season opener against Hawaii and needed painkilling injections before each game the rest of the way. He had surgery in January to remove a bone spur and reduce chronic inflammation.

But it was never clear when Tebow hurt his shoulder.

Florida’s Munroe has knee surgery. Florida safety Dorian Munroe has had arthroscopic knee surgery and will be out at least five weeks.

Munroe, who had been vying for a starting job, had surgery to repair meniscus damage in his right knee Monday. It was the latest setback for a fifth-year senior who missed all of last season following surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the same knee.

Munroe has played in 26 games, with two starts, and has 42 tackles. He had been battling Major Wright for a starting spot. Now, the earliest Munroe is expected to be able to play would be against LSU on Oct. 10.

Auburn RB charged with third-degree assault. Police officers allegedly saw Auburn running back Eric Smith knock a fellow student unconscious outside a hotel near campus.

Smith turned himself in to police Monday on a third-degree assault charge for the incident early Friday morning.

Smith was originally charged with disorderly conduct but Jenkins filed the assault complaint.

Loston cleared to join LSU. LSU recruit Craig Loston has been cleared to play by the NCAA.

The defensive back had to take a course over the summer to gain academic eligibility and joined the Tigers for practice on Monday, which was the first day of class.

Loston, of Aldine, Texas, was rated the best high school safety in the country by several recruiting Web sites last year.
