TUSCALOOSA — The handful of nagging injuries did not keep any Alabama football players off the practice field Tuesday afternoon.
In their first workout since Saturday’s scrimmage, everyone made it out to the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.
Freshman Trent Richardson, who suffered a sprained shoulder Saturday, worked out in a black non-contact jersey but still ran drills at full speed. Another freshman, defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick had missed some time last week but was on the field Tuesday.
Often injured running back Roy Upchurch also made it “all the way through” practice, coach Nick Saban said, after the senior sat out a few days last week with a groin-pull.
Cody no ‘rabbit’
The quest for Terrence Cody to play on third downs is not yet complete.
Saban said the nose tackle nicknamed “Mount Cody” had not hit the specific weight requirement he had set for him to play all three downs.
That weight is 348 pounds, and while Saban didn’t say exactly where Cody’s weight stood, he said it wasn’t below 348. At the beginning of practices Aug. 6, Cody said he tipped the scales at 355.
“We call that team ‘the rabbits,’ ” Saban said. “So to qualify to be a rabbit, you have to be down to 350.”
