Common Cause to hold SPLOST forum

Common Cause Columbus will hold a public forum on the proposed sales tax for school construction in Muscogee County from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 3 in the auditorium of the Columbus Public Library.

Muscogee County School superintendent Susan Andrews will be at the forum to answer questions about the September 15 sales tax referendum. If approved by voters, the 1 cent sales tax would last five years or until the school district collects $223 million to complete a variety of capital projects, including five new schools — a new Carver High, a new middle school, two new elementary schools and a fine arts academy — additions to Northside High and Richards Middle, and athletics and technology upgrades across the system.

The public is invited and encouraged to submit questions in advance of the forum. Questions are requested prior to the forum, but written questions will be entertained from the audience.

An oral question and answer session will be done at the end of the meeting.

The Ledger-Enquirer will webcast the forum live.
