The Muscogee County School District will receive $1.7 million from the Department of Defense to help provide technology in the classroom for military students.

The Department of Defense Education Activity grant will be used to create a podcast library for use by teachers, students and parents. Students will use the podcasts to learn new material, as well as for review. Parents will be able to view or participate in graduation ceremonies, classroom activities and current events using the podcasts.

The grant targets students whose parents are military or Department of Defense employees, but allows use by all students in the schools.

The grant will be implemented at 11 schools. The schools were chosen based on their military enrollment and academic criteria.

The schools include: Blanchard Elementary, River Road Elementary, Dawson Elementary, Fort Middle, Double Churches Elementary, Kendrick High, Gentian Elementary, Shaw High and Georgetown Elementary.
