Check out the Tuskegee-Morehouse festivities this weekend and you’ll see high-energy marching bands. Crowd-pleasing dance moves. Mouth-watering tailgating spreads.

Oh yeah, there’s also a football game.

Longtime fans of the Tuskegee-Morehouse Football Classic, now in its 74th year, know the event is often more about camaraderie than athletic rivalry.

Tuskegee University plays Morehouse College Saturday at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, but the fun kicks off long before the football teams hit the field.

Here are some of the highlights:

FRIDAY

• The Funk Legends Tour featuring The Bar-Kays, Con Funk Shun, Sugarfoot’s Ohio Players, the Dazz Band and Slave; 7:30 p.m. Columbus Civic Center. $25 and $39.

• Tailgate registration starts at 6 a.m. Friday, must be registered by 9 a.m. Saturday. Tailgate in Lot D, Columbus Civic Center parking lot.

• Daileys, 1039 Broadway, will host a Funk Legends after-party featuring performances by local acts Ophir Drive and the Lazy Swamis.

SATURDAY

• Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic Parade, 9 a.m. Starts at Broad Street and Dillingham in Phenix City, continues to First Avenue in Columbus and ends on Ninth Street.

• 74th Annual Tuskegee-Morehouse Football Classic, 2 p.m., A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium. Tickets: $15-$20 in advance at Columbus Civic Center box office, $18-$25 day of game, $10 kids under 12 day of game.
