LAGRANGE, Ga. Attention Troup County students, your parents are watching or they will be soon.
The Troup County School System is readying to unveil Parent Portal, a component of its new record system Infinite Campus. School board members took the new Web-based software for a spin Monday during their school board meeting.
Using the new system, parents will be able to access their students grades, assessment scores, school announcements, attendance and more. Parental Portal launches Monday for high school students and Oct. 26 for middle school students.
Infinite Campus replaces the previous record system EdLine, which was no longer compatible and needed to be replaced.
EdLine also allowed parents to check students grades and other information, but school officials said the new software is easier to navigate. It also offers additional features such as access to student assessment results and a calendar with school assignments and events.
Infinite Campus is used by a handful of local schools, including Harris, Coweta and Carroll counties.
In Troup County, the school board approved the softwares purchase in June 2008. The school system pays about $100,000 annually and has entered into an 18-month contract with the company providing the software.
Since the termination of EdLine and while the schools have worked to get Parent Portal ready, parents have been unable to immediately access their students academic information during the first few months of this school year.
This will change when Parent Portal officially launches next week.
Once parents set up a user name and password they will be able to log on using any computer with Internet access.
Once they log on, they will be greeted by a screen that will include any school or system-wide notices.
They will have an inbox, which will include any correspondence from teachers or staff.
They will also have access to a calendar with various events and school assignments.
Other features parents will be able to access include their students schedules, attendance records and assessment results that can be printed.
For example, parents will be able to access results of the Criterion Referenced Competency Test, SAT, ACT, and the Georgia High School Graduation Test.
Don Miller, the school systems chief financial officer, gave officials their virtual tour of the new program. He also underscored the tremendous effort the system has put forth converting information from EdLine to Infinite Campus.
Its a big task, but I think folks are going to like what they see, Miller said. Its pretty user friendly.
