LAGRANGE, Ga. Adult entertainment establishments will be the topic of a public hearing next month, LaGrange officials said Tuesday.
Proposed changes to city ordinances must be brought up for public discussion before they can be made official.
The first proposed change would prohibit sexually oriented businesses and adult entertainment establishments in the citys parkway overlay zone. The second proposed change would specify the definition of adult entertainment establishments.
These are more of a housekeeping nature. We needed to clean up the code, Meg Kelsey, LaGrange deputy city manager said during councils Tuesday morning committee meeting. That would prohibit that type of business in those zones.
LaGrange City Council reviewed the changes during its committee meeting and later during its evening council meeting with little discussion.
A first reading of the changes was conducted during the council meeting, but a decision on any changes wont be made until after a public hearing.
Kelsey said because the city is amending zoning ordinances, a public hearing is required.
LaGrange, which currently has at least one adult entertainment establishment located on New Franklin Road, isnt alone in its regulation of such businesses. Neighboring localities, including Columbus and Auburn, Ala., have some sort ordinance, or ordinances, on the books defining the establishments and regulating where they can and cannot be placed.
The public hearing on the proposed ordinance changes will be held Nov. 3.
