Opelika traffic accident: One person killed in three car crash Wednesday

Opelika police are investigating a traffic accident that killed one person and sent two others to the hospital Wednesday evening.

According to a news release, the collision occurred just after 5 p.m. CST, on Marvyn Parkway just south of Crawford Road. The crash involved three vehicles: a late 90s model Chevrolet pick-up truck, a 2007 Chevrolet pick-up truck and a 1998 Kia.

The Kia was occupied by two individuals. The passenger of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:35 p.m. by Lee County Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson.

The drivers of the Kia and the 2007 Chevy were transported to the East Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

Officers investigating the incident determined that the Kia and the late 90s model Chevy truck were traveling south on Marvyn Parkway and the 2007 Chevy truck was traveling north.

The Kia attempted to pull ahead of the late 90s model Chevy and was struck on its right side. The car then spun out, traveled into the northbound lane and was struck by the 2007 Chevy truck.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
