Columbus crime: Tommy Hinton, 40, accused of 7 counts of aggravated assault, has case dismissed

A Columbus man in jail since April on several aggravated assault charges, was released Tuesday after he had his case tossed out, Muscogee County Jail records show.

Tommy L. Hinton, 40, faced seven counts of aggravated assault and one count each of the following: discharging a gun in public, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, jail records state.

The aggravated assault and possession by a felon charges were put on the dead docket, meaning prosecutors will not pursue them. The remaining charges were dismissed without prejudice by prosecutors.
