Two local high school students have been named to the state superintendent's student advisory council.

McCall Butler, a student at Troup High School and Travis Perry, a student at Spencer High School, were two of 53 students chosen to serve on the council.

The council meets three times a year with state school superintendent Kathy Cox. They discuss how state policies are having an impact on the classroom and other education-related issues.

More than 550 students from 108 school districts applied to be a member of the council by filling out an application and answering essay questions. Students were chosen based on the strength of their essay answers.

The first meeting of the Student Advisory Council will be held November 9 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
