The Columbus man charged in connection with Tuesday night's slaying of 17-year-old Eric Demetries Maxwell is scheduled to appear in court this morning.

Derrick Lamar Johnson faces charges of murder, possessing a firearm while committing a crime and possessing cocaine with intent to distribute. These charges stem from the fatal shooting of Maxwell, who police say they found shot in the back about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in a 1995 Ford Taurus in the 2400 block of Second Avenue.
