There are an estimated 25,000 fans converging on the South Commons area today to tailgate and watch the 20th Annual Fountain City Classic football game, said Columbus Police Maj. Wanna Barker-Wright.

The Fort Valley State University Wildcats are clashing with the Albany State University Golden Rams at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium.

Traffic along the Victory Drive and Veterans Parkway corridors is likely to be heavily congested following the game, which should wrap up about 5 p.m.

This morning’s Fountain City Classic parade, which began on Broad Street in Phenix City before snaking its way across the 13th Street Bridge into Columbus and then south on Broadway, drew about 3,000 spectators in what appeared to be heavier-than-normal turnout.
