The automated teller machines that give customers of Synovus Financial Corp. and its affiliate banks access to their cash are are back up and operating normally.
"The ATMs are back up and everything's back to normal," Synovus spokesman Greg Hudgison said of the outage Wednesday that lasted less than two hours.
Hudgison said a third-party vendor that operates its system-wide ATM network had technical problems, leaving customers attempting to withdraw cash empty-handed as the lunch hour approached Wednesday.
"It's a third-party vendor," Hudgison said before service was restored. "It's not a bank issue. It's not a Synovus issue. It's a technology vendor that handles the ATM transactions."
The outage affected all of Synovus' banks, including CB&T and the company's 29 other banks in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee.
