Officer candidate Peter Sprenger, who lost an eye in 2003 in Iraq, will graduate from Officer Candidate School today at 1 p.m. at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.

Sprenger, 26, was injured on Dec. 9, 2003, 10 months into his deployment during the invasion of Iraq. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

The Stockton, Calif., native completed Ranger School after recovering from his injury and deployed again to Iraq in 2006.

Officer candidates with disabilities are not identified through a formal process and must meet the same standards as all soldiers who attend OCS, said George Whitley, public affairs spokesperson at the U.S. Army Cadet Command, Fort Monroe, Va.
