Jolley wins Hamilton City Council seat

When Cindy Jolley and Faith Birkhead ran Nov. 3 for re-election to the Hamilton City Council, they ended up in a runoff after one seat was taken by another candidate and they tied with 46 votes each for the second seat.

In Tuesday’s runoff, it was almost that close again. Unofficial results show that Jolley, CEO of CJ Properties, received 49 votes to retain a council seat for four years, ousting Birkhead, who co-owns The Studio in Pine Mountain. Birkhead had 46 votes.

Alvin Howard, who works at Fort Benning and is a minister in LaGrange, won the other seat Nov. 3 with 62 votes.

Waverly Hall voters also elected two-term Councilor Donna McPherson to a four-year term. McPherson, a homemaker, received 52 votes to 36 for Paula Maxwell, a homemaker.

The two were forced into a runoff during the Nov. 3 municipal election when McPherson collected 42 votes; Maxwell, 34; and Larry Johnston, an insurance adjuster, 30.

The Post 3 councilor is assigned to streets and roads.

Incumbent Pat Lowman retained her Post 4 seat Nov. 3 by defeating Billy Riles, 83-30. Daniel T. Akin also retained his Post 5 seat Nov. 3 by defeating Debbie Slayton. That vote was 77-30.
