Some local military girlfriends and wives took a trip back in time recently, posing beside restored World War II planes to create an old-fashioned pin-up calendar.

It wasn’t merely an exercise in vanity.

Proceeds from the 2010 calendar — “For Our Boys” — benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Tess Crosby of Columbus, who organized the project with Sarah Caudel, owner of Dixie Pin-Up in Atlanta.

Saturday, there will be two Columbus release parties for the calendar — one at Commando Military Supply, another at downtown hot spot Scruffy Murphy’s.

The Scruffy Murphy’s party features drink specials and finger foods.

Most of the women featured in the calendar are from the Columbus/Fort Benning area.

Crosby said the project had an end result deeper than just glamorous photos.

“I think it just brought all the girls together and it really just helped us solidify our commitment to what we were working toward,” she said.
