An argument between two men over sleeping arrangements early Sunday left one of them dead and the other charged with murder, Columbus police said.

Rajneesh McPherson, 24, was stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife at 1046 Farwell Drive around midnight during an argument with Gregory Lee Houston, 44, Lt. Steve Cox said.

“(McPherson) wanted to go to bed, but there were some children in his room and he wanted them out of there,” Cox said.

McPherson was pronounced dead at The Medical Center at 12:55 a.m. Houston was arrested at the Farwell home and is charged with murder, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children, the lieutenant added.

McPherson lived at the home with his sister, Houston, whom she dated, and two children, Cox said.

“And due to the fact that there were some children who witnessed it, he was charged with cruelty to children third degree,” the lieutenant said. McPherson and Houston were in the kitchen when the argument happened. They’d been arguing for about two minutes when Houston pulled the knife and stabbed McPherson multiple times, Cox said.

Officers were called to the home, and Houston was arrested and taken to the Muscogee County Jail. His Columbus Recorder’s Court hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. today.

An autopsy will be performed on McPherson’s body today in Atlanta, Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower said.
