Nila Burt, a math teacher at Shaw High School, has been selected as the new shared assistant principal at Northside and Hardaway High.
Burt's appointment was confirmed during a called Muscogee County School Board meeting today.
She will spend half of her time on the job at Northside and half of her time at Hardaway. The two schools have earned an additional half-time assistant principal position from the state, based on their enrollment growth due to No Child Left Behind transfers. Hardaway has about 1,700 students and Northside has about 1,580.
Burt has been a math teacher at Shaw High School since 2001. She has also taught in the Hamilton County School District in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Morgan County School District in Madison, Ga. and in East Baton Rouge Parish in Baton Rouge, La.
She has a bachelor's degree in mathematics and French from the University of Arkansas, a master's degree in administration and supervision from the University of Georgia and an educational specialist's degree from Columbus State University.
