Phenix City School Board member named state president

Alabama school board members recently installed Florence Bellamy of the Phenix City Board of Education as the Alabama Association if School Boards' new president.

She is the first Phenix City board member, third African American and fifth woman to serve as president since the association's founding in 1949.

Bellamy has been a school board member since 1989.

Professionally, Bellamy is supervisor of adult protective services for the Russell County Department of Human Resources.
