Local decorators showcase holiday lights

Some people live for inflatable holiday decorations. Others love elegant white lights. And, of course, a select group of spectators prefer displays accompanied by music.

Don’t worry: This year’s displays accommodate all those preferences.

    Dazzling displays aren’t limited to the Columbus area. Here are some standout decorations in Alabama:

    88 McMurrian Road, Phenix City
    The scene includes inflatables like Santa, Scooby-Doo, Winnie the Pooh and more. There’s also blinking icicle lights and a nice nativity scene.

    717 Lee Road 850, Phenix City
    This home’s windows and pillars are lined with lights. The display spans shades of pink, yellow, green and blue.

    35 Westside Drive, Phenix City
    The scene is anchored by a giant white star on the roof. You can expect a full assortment of plastic holiday lawn ornaments.

    109 Ridge Road, Seale
    Guests are greeted by a festive candy cane archway. The property boasts an eye-catching long driveway lined with candy canes, red bows and toy soldiers.

    652 Lee Road 960, Smiths
    It’s hard to pass up a trip to this one, where a Santa rock band plays on the roof. There’s also a tropical scene that will make you forget it’s December.

Here are some of the best and brightest decorations in Columbus, plus two just outside town:

821, 825 and 5216 Lichfield Road

Visit this street and you’ll see a brilliant star centerpiece, a motorcycle-riding snowman, miniature Christmas trees and more.

1340 Blanchfield Drive

There’s lots to see in this dazzling display. Don’t overlook the cool roof design and elevated hot air balloon.

1414 Foxcroft Loop

The uniqueness here comes with all the moving parts. You’ll especially enjoy the Ferris wheel and carousel.

6043 Ascot Way

This elegant display features a lawn filled with decorated trees. Look at the roof and you’ll see sparkling snowflakes, a “season’s greetings” message and Santa.

7177 Midnightsun Lane

It’s hard not to smile at the singing snowmen outside. Other highlights include moving deer and polar bears.

5711 and 5753 Springhill Avenue, 2539 Ogletree Street, 5735 Armour Road and more

This group of homes, located off West Britt David Road by Veterans Parkway, is your one-stop destination for holiday sightseeing. You’ll get your fix of elements like penguins, deer and candy canes.

3604 Grier Avenue

This scene is packed with holiday cheer. Marvel at Santa and his presents, and don’t forget to check out the fence decorations on the side of the home.

6250 Lynridge Drive

An inflatable Santa greets guests by popping out of a toy chest. The vast assortment of colored lights will brighten your spirits.

436 Cheyenne Road

Make sure to catch the intricately designed Santa’s workshop in this all-encompassing display. You’ll also spot Santa in a hammock.

6359 Independence Drive

Your eyes will stay busy looking at the many enchanting yard figurines. They include snowmen, a nativity scene and more.

5784 Ironstone Drive

The Ludy’s Christmas Spectacular is a “must see” in your holiday lights tour. The display spans over 90,000 lights and is synchronized to a radio station, 90.1 FM. It even has its own Twitter account and Facebook page.

5401 Shanna Court and 5322 Shanna Lane

These homes, which sit within viewing distance of each other, include decorative accents and colorful flashing lights synchronized to music. Tune your radio to 94.1 FM on Shanna Court and 101.7 FM on Shanna Lane.

3629 Dunhill Drive

You’ll discover something new every time you visit this popular stop, which is packed with decorations. There are Santas, penguins, deer, snowmen and more. Added bonus: Guests are invited to check out the inside decorations as well.

1015 Brookwood Avenue

It’s bright entertainment for your eyes and ears. Expect music and flashing icicle lights, plus multi-colored lights on the outside bushes.

4808 Freeman Court

The scene includes charming elements like a light-up mailbox and toy soldiers. Even Santa might have a hard time resisting an urge to linger outside.

2205 Ridgeway Road, Waverly Hall

The long frontage leading to the home is decorated with lights. The large property also includes candy canes, snowflakes and figurines. Drive up the road and you’ll see more festive homes.

745 West Bon Acre Road, Cataula

Holiday staples like candy canes, Santa and deer make this home well worth the trip.
