Police say Marcus Louis Wade — the 20-year-old man earlier accused of kidnapping a woman and her 3-year-old grandson — put a gun to a 12-year-old girl's head in a restroom at Columbus' Belvedere Park and threatened to kill her after abducting and sexually assaulting the East Colulmbus Magnet Academy student on Jan. 6.
Police Chief Ricky Boren divulged that information this afternoon during a press conference announcing that Wade was charged in the abduction that worried parents in the area around Buena Vista Road and Amber Drive.
Wade was arrested on Thursday and accused of abducting the grandmother and 3-year-old at gunpoint as they left the Family Dollar at 326 Farr Road. He told the woman to use her vehicle to drive him to a St. Marys Road automated teller machine, where he intended to withdraw money from her account, police said.
When the grandmother got out of the car at the bank machine, she called for help, Boren said. Wade then sped away in her vehicle, leaving it at the intersection of Leary Avenue and Murrelle Street. That's just a few blocks from Sims Street, north of St. Marys Road, where police said Wade was living.
The 3-year-old was unharmed during that incident, Boren said. He said investigators discovered evidence in the woman's car that led them to a Murrelle Street address, where they found and arrested Wade.
Today police linked Wade to the Jan. 6 abduction of the girl who was walking to East Columbus Magnet Academy when she was kidnapped at gunpoint, taken to Belvedere Park at the dead end of Parkwood Drive and sexually assaulted, authorities said. That happened the day after the grandmother and 3-year-old were abducted.
Wade now faces three counts of child molestation, one count of aggravated child molestation, one count of aggravated sodomy, three counts of kidnapping, two counts each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count each of the following: aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle and attempted armed robbery.
He also is being held on a probation violation, jail officials said.
According to his arrest report for the kidnapping allegation of the woman and 3-year-old, Wade was convicted of robbery and was sentenced on Jan. 2, 2008, to two years in prison, followed by eight on probation. Wade also has a cocaine conviction on his record, reports show.
According to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, Wade first entered the state prison system on Jan. 30, 2007, and was paroled on Aug. 8, 2008. His probation was revoked on Dec. 18, 2008, but his 2007 sentence expired Aug. 16, 2009, and he was released.
