Tennessee coach Derek Dooley added 11-year NFL assistant Charlie Baggett to his Volunteers staff Monday.
Baggett will be assistant head coach and wide receivers coach. The Vols also anounced that offensive coordinator Jim Chaney will remain on staff.
Baggett worked last season with the St. Louis Rams and worked with Dooley at the Miami Dolphins. He has also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers and the Houston Oilers. He coached at the collegiate level at Washington, Michigan State and Minnesota.
The new hires join Terry Joseph and Eric Russell, who were named to the staff Sunday, when their duties with the Vols were not announced.
Joseph has worked for the past three seasons under Dooley at Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs’ secondary coach and recruiting coordinator.
Russell spent two seasons under Dooley at Louisiana Tech and 13 seasons at North Texas before joining Texas Tech as special teams coach.

Sumlin agrees to extension
HOUSTON — Houston coach Kevin Sumlin has agreed to a contract extension through the 2015 season.
The school said Monday the deal for an additional three years is pending approval by the Board of Regents.
Sumlin’s name was mentioned in connection with several BCS conference openings this offseason.
A former assistant under Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, Sumlin was hired in December 2007 and agreed to a five-year contract. He was the first black head coach in the 60-year history of the Houston program. Houston reached No. 12 in the Associated Press Top 25 in 2009 and finished with a 10-4 record.
Last week, Houston offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen left to take the same position at Oklahoma State.
SOUTH FLORIDA
Holtz unveils staff
TAMPA, Fla. — Skip Holtz’s staff at South Florida will include five new assistants, as well as four holdovers who worked with the Bulls under fired coach Jim Leavitt.
Mark Snyder, Todd Fitch, Vernon Hargreaves, Peter Vaas and Rick Smith were added on Monday. They join Kevin Patrick, Larry Scott, Carl Franks and Phil McGeoghan, who were retained from Leavitt’s staff.
Specific staff titles were not announced.
Holtz was hired last Friday, one week after Leavitt was fired for mistreating a player.
Fitch, Hargreaves and Smith worked for Holtz at East Carolina. Snyder has been the head coach at Marshall, and Vaas joins USF from Miami of Ohio.

Porter hires Texas Tech assistant
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis football coach Larry Porter, a former Columbus High standout, has added Texas Tech assistant Brian Mitchell to his staff.
Porter said Monday he will recommend Mitchell to be the Tigers’ cornerbacks coach.
Mitchell spent 11 seasons as defensive assistant at BYU and four seasons as cornerbacks coach under Mike Leach at Texas Tech.
