Part of Edwards Street to close Monday

The DPW in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be closing Edwards Street between Marchant Street and Burr Street beginning at 8 a.m. Monday. The street is expected to reopen by 5 p.m. Feb. 21. The purpose of this closure is to install a new 9-foot diameter storm drain line beneath Edwards Street.

Alternate routes include Marchant, Ingersoll, Burr, Indianhead and Gillespie streets. Detours will be marked and approved traffic safety measures taken to ensure your safety.

A reminder to drivers: Ingersoll Street is also closed at Faith Middle School to all through traffic on school days as follows:

6:45-8:15 a.m. Monday through Friday 2-3:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 12:45-2:15 p.m. Tuesday

The closure at Ingersoll Street is to increase student safety during peak pedestrian hours.

Valentine’s Day is coming up, kick off the day with gourmet

Women’s post basketball league tryouts

Try out for men’s slow-pitch softball

The post men’s slow-pitch softball team will have tryouts for the 2010 season at 1 p.m. Feb. 13 and 20 at Gowdy Field. The team is open to active-duty military only. An ID is required. All participants must be available at least two nights a week during April through June and September and October, at least two weekends in May through July and all weekends in August. Youth baseball tryouts are coming

Play in basketball tourney for teens

Take aim at the Pro/Am archery shoot

The Uchee Creek Archery Club will host a Pro/Am archery shoot March 5-7 at the Uchee Creek Activity Center. The shoot will begin at 8:30 a.m. Competitors can sign up at www.usaarchery.com. Defense reps: Sign up for the IBCT information exchange

The Chattahoochee Valley and Fort Benning Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army will host an informal industry information exchange at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Benning Conference Center with the TRADOC Capability Manager Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The meeting is open to all defense industry representatives who would like to gain a greater understanding of the IBCT modernization objectives and desired capabilities. Christian women’s club hosting luncheon

The Columbus Christian Women’s Club will have a “Gift from the Heart” luncheon from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Green Island Country Club, 6501 Standing Boy Road, in Columbus.

“The Great Accessory Exchange” is planned. Bring up to five gently loved items to swap for a new treasure. The event will feature love songs from Mark and Cyndi Helms, while guest speaker Pat Lyons discusses “Jewels of the Heart.”

Learn to be your own health care advocate

The Department of Family Medicine offers voluntary, interactive sessions to enlist and validate patients as their own caregivers and address concerns.
