Local public and private schools are collaborating to recognize students who receive academic scholarships to colleges and universities.
Frank Brown, former Columbus State University president, approached the Muscogee County School board at its Monday night work session about creating a National Signing Day for Scholars.
Brown said the media often recognize students who receive athletic scholarships, but that students who receive academic scholarships should also be recognized.
A ceremony recognizing these students will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 2 at the Columbus Civic Center.
A scholars recognition committee with representation from public and private schools in the area has already been formed to address the logistics of the event.
