Columbus Police Sgt. William Gasaway wasn’t surprised the three women and teen girl he helped arrest Saturday in a prostitution sting were from the Atlanta area.
“The prostitutes come in for the weekend. We usually see them popping up on Thursday,” said the member of the Special Operations Unit. “All over town.”
Monday morning, the three women appeared in Columbus Recorder’s Court. All pleaded not guilty and were bound over to Muscogee County Superior Court.
The officer wasn’t surprised the women allegedly used Craig’s List, an online classified advertising Web site.
“We find prostitutes using all kinds of electronic social networking to get customers these days,” he said.
Gasaway was surprised to find the girl arrested was only 15.
“I’ve never had one that young,” he said. “She could have passed for 18.”
When arrested, she said she was 21. The true age of the Atlanta girl, who ran away from a group home in LaGrange, Ga., last December, was discovered in jail.
The teen will appear in juvenile court. It was her involvement with the women that could cause them the most trouble.
Cassandra Geotcha, 20, of Douglasville, Ga, got a $25,000 bond for child molestation from Recorder’s Court Judge Michael Cielinski, She also received a $10,000 bond for enticing a child for an indecent purpose, $2,500 for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and $1,000 for marijuana possession.
Tammy Baughman, 26, of Atlanta, received a $25,000 bond for child molestation, $10,000 for enticing a child for an indecent purpose, $2,500 for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, $1,000 for pimping and $1,000 for prostitution.
Brittnay Davis, 20, of Atlanta, received a $25,000 bond for child molestation, $10,000 for enticing a child for indecent purposes, $2,500 for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, and $1,000 for prostitution.
Charges of marijuana possession against two of the women were dismissed when Geotcha told the court a bag of marijuana found in the room was hers.
Columbus Police Special Agent Dean Spata told Cielinski police found the phone number for the women on Craig’s List. The woman who answered their call told the client he could “come over right now.” The location was room No. 222 at the Days Inn, 3452 Macon Road.
According to police, Gasaway went to the room around 2:20 p.m. Baughman searched his body for a recording device. He had one but it wasn’t discovered.
Gasaway said he was told the sex would cost $160 for an hour and $120 for a half hour. He could have his pick of the women. He chose Baughman and was then was offered Davis, as well, for another $40 bringing the total to $200. Money was exchanged. Arrests were made.
Spata said an ecstasy pill was found on a night stand and a bag of marijuana in a drawer. Police confiscated a Dell laptop and four cell phones. Explicit photos of the teen were found on an escort Web site.
