Toyota Motor Sales USA announced today a voluntary safety recall on approximately 133,000 model year 2010 Prius vehicles and 14,550 Lexus division 2010 HS 250h vehicles to update anti-lock brake system software.
The recall comes after complaints of inconsistent brake feel during brake application on rough or slick road surfaces.
Toyota has already introduced the update to the Prius vehicles in production and says the production change for the Lexus HS250h is scheduled for later this month.
Only Prius vehicles produced since May 2009 and all HS 250h vehicles are subject to the recall. The first two generations of the Prius use a different anti-lock braking system and are not subject to the recall.
Toyota will begin mailing letters to Prius owners next week and to Lexus owners in the next few weeks. Only those impacted by the recall will receive notification.
Also, in a separate recall, Toyota will conduct a voluntary safety recall on approximately 7,300 early production, 2010 model year Camry vehicles equipped with a four cylinder engine. They will inspect a power steering hose that may be in contact with a front brake tube. Those owners will be contacted through mail starting in mid-February.
